As at 21 December 2001, new privacy laws came into operation as a result of public concern about how personal information is used.
Our Physiotherapy Practice is bound by the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, and operates in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
This practice takes great care to ensure that our information records are accurate and are treated with full regard to the privacy of our patients. We are pleased to discuss our procedures with you, and to amend any inaccuracies.
- We collect information that is necessary for good health care. The information we hold may be disclosed only to persons involved in your treatment. We aim to ensure any information we hold is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
- Our staff may be involved in research on health issues however the information will not identify our patients.
- Health information may also be used for quality assurance or clinical audit activities, which help improve the treatment and service we provide. Data used for this purpose is de-identified wherever possible, to protect the privacy of our patients.
- Our health records are kept in a secure location for staff access only. Security measures include restricted access, clauses in employee agreements requiring confidentiality, document shredding protocols and electronic security.
